Mr. Greg Acre
Mr. Greg Acre has been with the Mercer Area School District since August 2010. Mr. Acre has been the building principal of Mercer Elementary since July 2016. He is a 2005 graduate of Knoch High School, Saxonburg, PA. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Slippery Rock University in 2009. After teaching at Northumberland County Middle School (2009-2010) in Heathsville, Virginia, he taught 9th/10th grade history (2010-2014) at Mercer High School. For six years, Mr. Acre served as the advisor to the Middle-High School Student Council. Mr. Acre served as the Dean of Students (2012-2014) at Mercer Middle-High School while completing his Master's degree in Education Administration at Westminster College and earning his Principal K-12 certification. Mr. Acre served as the Assistant Principal of Mercer Middle-High School (2014-2016) during which time he served as the district coordinator of the Mercer Area Virtual Academy, a K-12 cyber program organized and managed by the Mercer Area School District. Mr. Acre currently serves as the chairperson of the Mercer Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Committee.
Mr. Acre's Building Goals 2024-2025
1. Collaborate continuously with community members and professional and educational stakeholders to provide support to students and school district. Greater community engagement is sought to support student learning opportunities. Whether it be coordinating efforts with community organizations to provide direct support to the students, collaborating with federal programs, connecting with community organizations and educational institutions to forge ongoing partnerships to provide benefits to the students, staff, and stakeholders within the district. At the core of this goal is the establishment of an Elementary Community Advisory Panel, which will provide greater opportunities for collaboration and shared ownership to best support our student learners.
2. Facilitate continuous professional development opportunities for Mercer Elementary teaching staff with an increased focus on providing enriching instruction and diverse learning experiences through the utilization of effective teaching strategies. Ensuring that learning is differentiated according to student need, utilizing all available data, we will challenge all students to expand and grow their individual skills and abilities. The principal will work with teachers to best deliver high quality teaching through the utilization of professional and informal classroom observations, collaborative meetings, data discussions, and providing specific feedback and guidance.
3. Increase efforts to improve daily student attendance at the elementary school throughout the school year. Greater communication with parents through increased attendance correspondence will be crucial at reinforcing student attendance. Utilization of Student Attendance Improvement Plans (SAIP) shall increase collaboration between administration and parents to ensure that students are complying with attendance regulations. Utilization of community resources will be utilized to promote positive attendance and provide support to parents. Reinforcement and recognition of positive student attendance shall support attributes of good attendance.
