Welcome to Mercer!

The Mercer Area School District serves the educational needs of the students in the Mercer Area community, which includes the Borough of Mercer, Coolspring Township, East Lackawannock Township, Findley Township and Jefferson Township. It is comprised of two buildings, the Mercer Area Elementary School, educating grades K-6 and the Mercer Area Middle/Senior High School, educating grades 7-12. We are located in the south central portion of Mercer County, Pennsylvania and are home to the County Seat. Geographically, the school district is located midway between Erie and Pittsburgh, encompassing an area of 91 square miles, serving a school population of 1,150 students in a primarily rural setting.

The Mercer Area School District has received many accolades of success over the years and has been ranked in the top 25% of all school districts in Pennsylvania with respect to academic accomplishments. Additionally, a national study rated Mercer as one of the top 10 districts in the state with respect to spending and achievement.  In 2015 the Mercer Area School District received a first place Magna Award from the National School Boards Association for "Best Practices" across the United States. Our high school offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses and currently partners with St. Francis University to offer college credits in 10 courses across a variety of disciplines.

The mission of the Mercer Area School District is to provide a world-class education to all students. Our vision is to be a school district that is respected for its academic excellence and for the development of students who provide positive contributions to the community. This can only be accomplished with a team of dedicated individuals. Our teaching staff from grades K-12 is comprised of a strong academically gifted group of professionals dedicated to ensuring success for all children. Additionally, many others consisting of the board of education, the administrative staff, directors of services, administrative assistants, and the support staff daily give their all to ensure the best learning opportunities are available for our students.
